I first discovered Bilibin's artwork in a mythology book, (in black and white). Then when i found this site, i was totaly gobsmacked at the detail that i couldnt see in the book. He's simply the best artist around. Ive tried to copy his work, but its crap compaired to his.

The page is a fine tribute to a fine artist. I have a picture book dating from 1920 the dialogue is in Russian. Some of the illustrations seeem to be done with a metalic paint finish. Also many of the small sketches at the chapter ends are incredibly simple and minimalistic but capture uniquely the vastness of the Russian step with distant rivers and occasional low hills

Bilibil's work included some of the most amazing illustrations I have ever seen. The problem seems to be finding them with the just as amazing boarders. You have a nice collection of his work here, but unfortunately the boarders have been removed from most of them. Keep trying and thanks for the site.

Twenty years ago as a naive young American schoolgirl I visited the former USSR. While there, I came to own a copy of Vassilisa the Beautiful (in English!) and brought it home with me, but since then it has gone missing. Until today when I stumbled across this site I thought I would never see that enchanting artwork again. This site is a wonderful find! Now I am hoping that maybe I can get another copy of that book for my little girl. Bilibin's work makes the magic in the world seem so real. Thank You!

Beautiful! Thanks so much for this gallery. Bilibin is simply the best fantasy artist I've ever seen (including Rackham!). His sense of design is exquisite. (Thanks for the big jpegs too). :))))

So glad that Ivan has a following. I have never seen such beautiful fantasy illusrtations before. I have been a fan for the last 10 years. I just found a book yesterday that contains some of his illustrations. It is called: "Russian Art Nouveau, the Diaghilev Group of Russian Artists" by Vsevolod Petrov. There are many other Russian artists in this book also. It is a beautiful book.

Congratulations for this wonderful recopilation of Bilibin´s art. I know Bilibin´s work since a lot of years ago, and as someone has said before, it´s hard to find his art on the net. Keep on this site!. (In the art section of my web you will find fine art, although I have not opened a Bilibin section yet).

So glad to find this page! I've always loved Bilibin's illustrations, but have been unable to find many on the Web - this is the best collection I've seen! Now - just add more to it!
